Lean Systems

“Lean System is an Operating system that maximizes the value added by each of a company’s activities by removing waste and delays.”
One of the most popular system that is used especially in the clothing industry like Guess inc is the push method that is when your set up time will take less than ten minutes. This is one of the processes of a lean system that reduces waste. Guess does use a push method in their retail store because it enhances replenishment while removing bottlenecks across their different chain of stores, it also helps to get rid of wasted effort, time, materials and other things that is not needed in the Guess retail store, it also helps tremendously in the overall performance of all their retail stores and improves Guess operational flow.

Another method is the pull method this method is used only when a company is making goods that are custom build at the customer’s request because it reduces overproduction. Guess does not use a pull method as such because most of their products are not made to order unless dealing with high end celebrities.

Jidoka is another part of a lean system that a lot of manufacturing companies use, this system allows them to stop a process when there is a problem and fix the problem on the line itself as it occurs. Guess adopted  this policy in order to take action and adopt to a new system that would  integrated and  help in  reducing risk and defects. With that said Guess came up with a product line so they would have the correct product line manufacture for both Europe and the United States

Poka Yoke is also a system of the lean system this is when a company design their business to prevent mistakes that may occur. For example Guess has people on the line that should a stitch becomes out of place or the trimming is not correct they can identify that issue and fixed it or remove it from the line before it reaches their retail stores.

“The 5S is also an important part of the waste production task, this allows guess managers to see  and analyse things differently while they prioritize and achieve a greater degree of success.”
